Surviving Violence - Nov 26 to Dec 2

Unarchive Cecilia Araneda

Films A to Z

In this short film, which questions the very concept of archives from its title on, private memories and collective history clash and intermingle. Filmmaker Cecilia Araneda weaves together the story of her father, who fled Chile for Canada, and that of the dramatic events that shaped his native country. Between the two is the history of images and the way they reflect reality: historical films, television archives, family photos and present-day footage of an elderly father who has sworn off capturing images. Edited together, these fragments of time coalesce into the touching portrait of a man and a country, and a reflection on the workings of history and its inextricably linked individual fates. (Apolline Caron-Ottavi)
