The Magnitude of All Things Jennifer Abbott

Films A to Z

The impacts of climate change are being felt everywhere, biodiversity is collapsing, landscapes are changing irreversibly. In this expansive, richly textured documentary, Jennifer Abbott links the experience of loss at the most personal level – the sickness and death of her sister – to feelings of grief and injustice among people who are already seeing their living environments destroyed. In particular, she listens to those who have been affected first and most violently: the indigenous peoples of Nunatsiavut, the Kiribati archipelago, Amazonia and Tasmania. She also speaks with a variety of activists, from independent young people to members of Extinction Rebellion. This polyphonic mosaic and its breathtaking images lead us to a new way of seeing our world, complete with a ray of hope and a hint of revolt. (Apolline Caron-Ottavi)
