Prayer for a Lost Mitten
At the lost-and-found, men and women come and go, looking for mislaid hats, bus passes or keys. An explorer of inner lives, Jean-François Lesage (Un amour d’été, La rivière cachée), meets these ordinary people and investigates the lost mittens. The importance of these mundane stray items often hides a bigger void: lost love, friends, homelands… In elegant black and white, and with his characteristic generosity and subtle humour, the filmmaker’s perspective branches out from the small and intimate to a meditation on community and existence itself. The result is a quintessential Montreal piece, yet also universal. This is a film that celebrates unity: a winter tale infused with human warmth. (Apolline Caron-Ottavi)
