Challenging Power - Nov 19 to Nov 25

Peugeot pulmonaire Samy Benammar

Films A to Z

“A single image, hundreds of numbers.” So reads one of the solemnly evocative insert titles punctuating the obsessively repetitive images comprising this experimental short film filled with white-hot rage. The rage of a young filmmaker who discovers, when opening a box of old negatives and papers, the profoundly unhealthy conditions facing the workers in a Peugeot factory in the 1950s. Exploited workers with damaged lungs, including one Ammar Benammar. As the images of x-rays and medical notes fly by against a soundtrack oscillating between silence and grating metallic cacophony, the golden age of manufacturing is exposed for what it was: an assembly line of death. (Bruno Dequen)
