Petite Fille Sébastien Lifshitz

Films A to Z

Little Girl

Sasha is 7. She is lively and gentle, and likes choosing her own clothes, playing with her siblings and learning to dance. She’s a lot like other little girls, but was declared male at birth. Sébastien Lifshitz (Les invisibles, Adolescentes) films this uncommon story with the sensitivity we have come to expect from him. He captures the laughter, doubts, desires, fears and, unfortunately, crying that mark this trans child’s days. He documents the unending struggle of a mother who can no longer take all the tears, and the hostile institutions and adults that make them flow. Despite all the obstacles, this is a hopeful and tender portrait of a person who is intensely determined to build herself. (Apolline Caron-Ottavi)
