L'Indien malcommode Michelle Latimer

Films A to Z

Inconvenient Indian

An essential and hopeful call for revolt, this adaptation of Thomas King’s famous book The Inconvenient Indian revisits history, the better to rewrite it and highlight present-day voices. Inspired by King’s reflections, Métis and Algonquin filmmaker Michelle Latimer deconstructs the narratives around the colonization of the Indigenous peoples of North America, with archival materials, interviews, performances and traditional activities. A broadside that decries the arrogance, irresponsibility and manipulativeness of politicians and the media, this decidedly impolite film features numerous Indigenous artists and community members, who expose the dark side of colonialism, perpetuated by myths and narratives that need to be exposed in order to be destroyed.
