Beaver Lake, August 25th, 2018, Ciel Variable Daniel Dietzel

Films index A to Z

Three years after 24.24.24. (RIDM 2016), Daniel Dietzel is back with a video installation that brilliantly continues his exploration of multiple timelines within a single work. Presented on three screens, a cluster of pixels is accompanied by muddled sounds. Gradually, three complementary images emerge: apparently mundane shots of a summer day at Beaver Lake. The sounds also become clearer, revealing themselves as the park’s ambient noise. The false panorama gradually grows denser. Each screen becomes a frame for four scenes captured at different times and frame rates. Temporality becomes malleable, reality is coloured with a vision encompassing past, present and future, in an act that can only exist in cinema.

Presented by Canada Media Fund , Bell Media and Québec/Canada XR in collaboration with MUTEK and le labdoc (Laboratoire de recherche sur les pratiques audiovisuelles documentaires (labdoc) de l'UQAM. Québec/Canada XR is an initiative supported by Canada Council for the Arts | Conseil des arts du Canada & Culture et Communications Québec
