Resistance

Amussu Nadir Bouhmouch

Films index A to Z

According to a Berber proverb, an event without its poem is an event that never happened. In Imider, a village in southeastern Morocco, the Amazigh community lives and resists on that very principle. Africa’s biggest silver mine has been diverting the water needed for their almond groves. For eight years the villagers have struggled peacefully to preserve their fragile oasis and their right to land and life. Their weapons: theatre, poetry, song – and this documentary, made by director Nadir Bouhmouch in collaboration with the people of Imider. Facing its powerful foe, the resistance movement marshals its resilience, creativity and thirst for justice. Even the police and intelligence services cannot crush them.
