Laura Huertas Millán: Toward a decolonized ethnography

Aequador Laura Huertas Millan

Films index A to Z

In a similar vein to Voyage en la terre autrement dite, Aequador investigates the colonization of nature. Filmed on a Colombian stretch of the Amazon lined with abandoned modernist buildings, the film uses visual and auditory textures to create a science fictionstyle environment, evoke the utopias of the past, and contrast the concepts of nature and artifice. Here, fantasy is not mere frivolity: it’s a starting point for exploring possible alternatives to the conquistadors’ narratives.
