November 16th, 2018 The Rick Prelinger Sessions: Archives, Popular Documentary, NYC

Masterclass : Rick Prelinger

This master class will focus on key concepts underlying Rick Prelinger’s work, such as the construction and dissemination of a counter-hegemonic concept of cinema that spotlights orphaned images and the nameless history of film. The class will also explore how Prelinger advances the popular documentary through his Lost Landscapes series of participatory films. More broadly, the session is concerned with artistic practices based on audio-visual archives.

The class will take the form of a dialogue among Prelinger, professor Viva Paci and filmmaker and doctoral candidate Caroline Martel, of the labdoc.

Presented in collaboration with the labdoc (Le laboratoire de recherche sur les pratiques audiovisuelles documentaires)
