Turtles Are Always Home Rawane Nassif

Film index A to Z

Sokun Al Sulhufat

Brand new idyllic seeming cities emerge in the desert, ghost towns with shiny facades and utterly empty interiors waiting endlessly for some life. In the mean time, smiling images cover the windows of the vacant storefronts while workers keep the lonely streets clean and the fountains flowing. Filmmaker Rawane Nassif creates engrossing visual tableaux in this desolate environment where tiny details become poetry, at times placing herself within these beautiful and eerie spaces, to reflect on the meaning of home. Is it here or is it within us, wherever we are. (SM)
