The Other Side of the Wall Pau Ortiz

Film index A to Z

Al otro lado del muro

Like many families, Ale and Rocío's left Honduras for Mexico in search of a better life. But nothing is going as they’d hoped. Their mother, their only parent, has been imprisoned arbitrarily. Now 18 and 13, Ale and Rocío are forced to lead adult lives, protecting and supporting their little brother and sister. He’s looking for a job, but has no papers. She takes on housekeeping and childcare duties. They’re tired, stressed and struggling to keep the family together. Pau Ortiz’s film is gut-wrenching, not least because of its sensitive, delicate and intimate approach to filming and listening to these children in their daily lives. They’re endearing, smart, brave and not soon forgotten.
