Nowhere to Hide Zaradasht Ahmed

Film index A to Z

In 2011, filmmaker Zaradasht Ahmed gave a camera to Nori Sharif, a nurse and father living in the town of Jalawla, in central Iraq. At first Sharif thought of filming the community’s most disadvantaged and the war wounded, thinking himself too fortunate to be an appropriate subject. But over the next five years, Sharif’s world crumbled. Abandoned by the army, caught between the Islamic State and countless rival gangs, Jalawla crumbled into ruins, and Sharif had no choice but to flee into a future as uncertain as his country’s. With uncommon intensity, Nowhere to Hide provides a unique and utterly heartbreaking perspective on Iraq today.

Presented in collaboration with CINEMA POLITICA UQAM and Cinema Politica
