We'll Be Alright

Yulia and Katia are orphans who have lived tough lives. On reaching the age of majority, they are arbitrarily locked up in the Tinskaya psychiatric hospital, declared incompetent, and stripped of all ability to make their own decisions about their lives. Filmed over several years, We’ll Be Alright recounts their struggle to force the Russian state to restore their freedom. From a claustrophobic, yet warm, daily life in the asylum, to chilling court hearings, Kafkaesque interrogations and moments of friendship that keep them sane, Alexander Kuznetsov gently, empathetically documents the hopes and disillusionments of the young women. Their strength is extraordinary, as they pursue their dream of simply having the chance to live ordinary lives.
