Collisions Lynette Wallworth

Film index A to Z

Collisions, by artist/filmmaker Lynette Wallworth, is a virtual-reality voyage into the Martu aboriginal community, in Australia’s Pilbara Desert. The Martu largely avoided western culture until the 1950s. At the time, a tragic culture shock literally made the earth move: an atomic test was conducted on their land. One elder, Nyarri Morgan, recalls what he saw and heard. A precious witness, Nyari tells the story of his relationship with the land and discusses our planet’s fragility. Combining a powerful story, a unique encounter and a poetic representation of reality, Collisions is a convincing statement of the importance of virtual reality as a documentary medium.
