Michka Saäl (1951-2017) tribute evening

China Me Michka Saäl

Film index A to Z

The 2008 earthquake, cutthroat competition in universities, lack of education, poverty, violence, mental health problems. But also schools and programs designed to help the people, the many hopes and dreams not yet dashed by everyday reality, incredible economic growth whetting all appetites. Complex, fascinating and paced by the concrete poetry of Zhai Yongming, China Me is a portrait of modern China through numerous chance, impressionistic encounters with its people, revealing its history and its deepest contradictions. Eight years after Prisonniers de Beckett, we are happy to rediscover the touching humanity and empathy of Michka Saäl’s unique eye.
