24 Davids

Through a series of inspiring encounters, Céline Baril continues her entirely liberated, original and brilliant approach to the cinematic essay. This is a thoughtful road movie, filmed on three continents, in which we hear from no fewer than 24 protagonists. They seem to have nothing in common, and the film switches seamlessly from a Quebec physicist’s scientific musings to a Mexican intellectual’s socio-political analysis, to the testimony of the Togolese manager of a digital art cooperative based on recycling. All are named David. A reference to the legendary underdog? The question remains unanswered, but it matters little considering each man’s deep commitment to making the world a better – or at least less mysterious – place.
