Nouménie: A Cinematic Installation by Pierre-Yves Vandeweerd

Activities and Events

Nouménie is the day of the new moon, when animals solemnly approach humans, interceding with the dead. It is also the incandescent core of a person who has braved danger. From the Saharan steppes to the mountains of the Caucasus, men run, fall and get back up. They resist. Echoing these fugitives, soldiers cross deserts and dig trenches. They fight. Like ghosts, surviving images – of what is gone and of those who died – return here and there from the deep solitude of war, guided by the intuition of camels and sheep. Composed of previously unseen images and audio testimonials recorded in wartime, on the outer limits of the world and reason, this installation is conceived as a visitation from humanity’s poles, like an epiphany of the unspeakable reached through poetic gesture.

A vernissage will take place on Novembre 12, 5pm at RIDM Headquarters (café).
